The technology for automated driving systems to deliver levels 3, 4 and 5 (conditional driving automation,high driving automation and full automation) will continue to evolve rapidly over the next few years.
UN Regulations introduced during this time will recognise the need for a human driver.
Road regulations and vehicle regulatory standards will be gradually developed and regulatory authorities will develop the necessary regulatory approaches for automated driving over time.
The FCAI and member companies recognise the potential of connected and automated vehicles(CAV) to provide significant safety, environmental and social benefits to Australia through reductionsin crashes, reduced congestion and increased mobility.
To facilitate the introduction of automated and connected vehicles, it is important to harmonise with the relevant overseas market’s vehicle technical and operation standards.
